Our Story: The Natural Fibre Revolution

Why Was Ballet Still Stuck in Plastic?

Our story began not with an idea, but with an observation.

Co founders Flavia and Valerie met in an adult ballet class in London and saw a universal problem: everyone was dancing in plastic.

They were wearing the same old leotards: stiff, sweaty, and made from 100% synthetic, non breathable materials (nylon and spandex). This was the industry's 100-year-old "uniform" a compromise that turned passion into a burden.

In the studio, dancers were forced to compromise on irreconcilable dimensions (like Performance vs. Comfort, or Durability vs. Sensation).

In fact, We have spent 100 years acclimatizing to these compromises. We have been forced to accept a false premise: that ballet wear is supposed to be uncomfortable.

"Why has every other sport, running, yoga, climbing, had a fabric tech revolution, while ballet is still stuck in this compromise?" Flavia voiced the question that defined our mission.

The "Plastic" Shortcuts We Refused

The traditional ballet wear industry hadn't changed. It was (and is) reliant on cheap, mass produced synthetic fabrics. These materials feel less like professional gear and more like "modern torture devices" trapping sweat, causing chafing, and suffocating the skin.

FLA Ballet was born to end this. We refused the shortcuts.

The Natural Solution

We chose the longer, more rewarding path. We partnered with 40 year textile experts and Italian masters like Giovanni Vitale to engineer what the industry said was impossible: a true high performance natural fibre dancewear fabric.

The result is Fla Balletique™: our proprietary blend of Merino Wool (for performance warmth), Organic Cotton (for superior breathability), and Mulberry Silk (for a buttery soft feel).

It’s 4x more breathable than any synthetic. It’s the end of chafing and marks. This is the sustainable ballet brand revolution our art form deserved.

This is how you finally feel your dance, not your dancewear.
